Students & Universities - Testimonials
"So far, I have signed 8 consecutive one-year contracts with SOS, and have been so impressed with their service, I could see myself signing several more contracts with them. For the first 5 one-year contracts, I was classified as a traveler (returning to my PA home for the holidays and summer breaks), however, I'm now an official HOOSIER.
SOS contacted me shortly after I graduated from my Masters degree program in 1999 and convinced me to interview for two Maine and one Vermont school positions. SOS arranged for each of the school corporations to call me for phone interviews at 1:00PM, 1:30PM and 2:00PM on the same day. Each interview lasted approximately 15 minutes and resulted in all three schools anxious for me to accept. Two weeks later, I moved from NW PA to a mountainside apartment in northern Vermont (just one mountain peak away from a nearby ski resort), which SOS provided for me (arranged, paid the lease and electric bills) while on assignment for the school year. SOS completed the necessary Vermont licensure paperwork, paid all fees, and provided a licensed SLP to supervise my CFY. The first year went so well that I signed up for a second year in Vermont.
|Their help in transitioning from New England to the Midwest was greatly appreciated and frankly, I don't think things would have gone smoothly without their assistance.|
My 3rd and 4th SOS contracts placed me in schools within the corn and soybean fields of NW Indiana. Once again, SOS handled all the necessary licensure paperwork, paid the fees, paid the lease and utilities for my recently built 2-bedroom apartment, and provided the furniture for the apartment. Their help in transitioning from New England to the Midwest was greatly appreciated and frankly, I don't think things would have gone smoothly without their assistance.
My 5th SOS contract placed me in a NE Illinois elementary school (40-50 student case load). However, this time I paid for my apartment and paid the lease, utilities, and bought my own furniture (SOS generously compensated me by increasing my hourly rate). I recall visiting a stressed SLP colleague at her neighboring elementary school and noticed her table covered with licensure forms and envelopes which she was attempting to complete and pay the necessary fees. Her contract company (an SOS competitor) required their employees to complete their own licensure paperwork and pay their own fees. I still remember the look of "disbelief" on her face when I told her my contract company took care of all the licensure paperwork and fees for me. Subsequently, she signed a contract with SOS the following year!
My 6th, 7th, and 8th SOS contracts placed me back in the corn and soybean fields of NE Indiana schools where I have provided speech services to pre-school through 12th grade students. SOS no longer provides the free housing; however, they continue to handle all the licensure paperwork, licensure fees, ASHA dues, CEU conference fees, health insurance premiums, flu shot and TB testing fees, and 401K retirement plan (SOS matches 4% of my contributions). They continue to be a very generous company.
I highly recommend that you give SOS the opportunity to find you a desirable position within the school, hospital, or nursing home settings. They won't let you down."
